Magnetic Gravity

Magnetic Gravity

Magnetic Gravity (MG) is, amongst some alien species, the preferred way of creating artificial gravity. It is flexible, low cost, and can be mounted to any surface.

Magnetic Gravity (MG) is, amongst some alien species, the preferred way of creating artificial gravity. MG is incredibly flexible, can be mounted to any surface, and is low cost in terms of installation, maintenance, and energy usage.

Classes

MG comes in two classes: floor-based MG and boot-based MG.

  • Floor-based MG works by magnetizing the whole floor; anything magnetic gets attracted to it.
  • Boot-based MG is more flexible but does not actually provide AG — it simply sticks the user to a magnetic surface to give a more comfortable reference frame. This is useful for operations outside the starship.

The [[corsair-dropship|Corsair]]

A dropship like the Corsair uses floor-based MG to simulate gravity; however, this requires the crew to wear a full-body magnetic suit.

The Korsakk

The Korsakk species has a naturally high amount of carbon nanotubes occurring in the cells of their bodies, so much so that they can rely on it to pull them down in an MG field to feel a sense of artificial gravity — without any suit at all.

People traversing the emptiness of space and visiting foreign planets often wear custom-made compression suits to regulate different pressures. The coil used for these suits is magnetic and can be used with MG.
